Father Frank Dicristina
He is an Italian from West Paterson, New Jersey. He attended the public grade school and the regional high school there. When he was growing up, the family started The Italian Family Florist Shop. A mob of folks went there for funerals, baptisms, weddings, and flowers for all occasions. At age 11 he was working for the family and helping in the shop. For several years he was a member of the Royal Airs Drum and Bugle Corp. They did a lot of traveling for regional competitions. At the age of 19 he left to go to school with the Xaverian Missionaries, an Italian community dedicated to the foreign missions. He received a B.A. in Theology from St. Francis de Sales College in Milwaukee and spent 1 ½ years at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago working on a Master in Theology Degree. He decided that the foreign missions were not for him and returned to New Jersey to be in the family business. For the next five years he was a catechist for the family parish. After that, another pastor invited him to use his theological background as a catechist, liturgist and art and environment volunteer.
In 1983 he went back to the seminary for the Diocese of Paterson, N.J. He received a Master in Divinity from St. Mary’s University in Baltimore, Maryland and was ordained for the Diocese of Paterson. He was an associate for six years at St. Anthony in Hawthorne, NJ and for four years at St. Margaret of Scotland in Morristown, NJ. He went to San Antonio for Spanish language school and heard about the desperate needs of the mission diocese of San Bernardino. Sixteen years ago he came to this diocese. His first parish assignment was with serving with Fr. Joe Felker as his Parochial Vicar at Sacred Heart in Redlands. After that he went to St. Martha’s in Murrieta, for one year. Spent three years as Administrator at San Gorgonio in Beaumont.
